How Does Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture is based on the ancient Chinese theory of chi (energy) flow through meridian (channels) pathways which run through our bodies.
I employ The Worsley 5 Element Acupuncture method which works by assisting the body's own healing abilities. By opening 'blocked' channels, healthy energetic patterns are restored, much like getting the 'kinks' out of a garden hose. Once the hose is cleared, water can flow and the flowers receive the water they need, so to speak. Pain, swelling or tumors are areas of 'blocked' energy. Stress also affects us in so many ways - mostly negatively. Poor diet, polluted air and water, lack of adequate exercise, insufficient rest and not enough play - they all impact our state of being. Acupuncture destresses the Body/Mind/Spirit immediately. The patient regains clarity of thought - a deep sense of reconnecting and real healing occurs. The Acupuncture I employ is cumulative. With each treatment your body's innate healing capabilities are enhanced, furthering you along your path of restored health.
Is Acupuncture Safe?
I use sterilized needles so that there is no chance of contamination. Acupuncture is a safe, gentle procedure. Each needle is the thickness of approximately 3-5 hairs.
Is Acupuncture Painful?
The needles used are about the thickness of a hair so treatments are usually painless. After the needle is inserted, you may have a tingling sensation which indicates the energy is moving. I use very few needles and I don't leave the needles in. Some "points" may feel like a slight inside pinch - this sensation is momentary. Acupuncture is very relaxing for most patients.
How Long Does a Treatment Last?
Since 1996 I have successfully treated over one thousand patients with varied symptoms.
All treatments are individualized to suit the patient and I only see one patient at a time. The initial treatment usually lasts one hour (sometimes longer). Follow-up treatments last between forty five minutes and an hour.
